For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology or FIRST, is an international nonprofit youth organization, operating the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), FIRST LEGO League (FLL), FIRST LEGO League Jr. (FLL Jr.), and FIRST Tech Challenge competitions (FTC). Founded by Dean Kamen and Woodie Flowers in 1989, its goal of inspiring students in the technology and engineering field, as well as the idea of gracious professionalism,has spread beyond its birthplace in Manchester, New Hampshire, to around the globe.
Jellyfish Team 4654 is a registered and competing team in the FIRST Tech Challenge. Teams consisting of 7th-12th-grade students compete in an alliance styled challenge that changes every season. Not only do participants develop STEM skills and essential engineering practices, but also things like communication skills, and marketing skills. Most importantly, the ideas of gracious professionalism, to fiercely compete but also treat each other with kindness and respect are practiced and embraced every day by team members and mentors alike.
